Students learning while caring for the community

Students learning while caring for the community

James Lifton · Oct 29, 2024 ·

HAN member Hawai‘i Pacific Health partnered with the Hawai‘i Department of Education to establish the new Waipahu High School Academic Health Center, which they believe is a first of its kind in the nation. The center allows more than 500 students to get direct, first-hand experience in healthcare, working alongside and shadowing medical professionals.

From the Hawaii News Now interview with Dr. Leslie Chun, CEO of Hawaii Pacific Health Medical Group:

It’s a fully operational clinic right on the campus of Waipahu High School and serves as a training ground for the students. . . . The students can help care for their communities as well as learn in the process. . . . working and shadowing our professionals.
