Supply chain purchasing power for healthy communities

Supply chain purchasing power for healthy communities

bpham · Dec 7, 2022 ·

The Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) wrote a commentary in AHRMM’s magazine to urge health system supply chain leaders to leverage their purchasing power more intentionally to address economic, racial, and environmental inequities in communities with the greatest health disparities.

From the HAN commentary:

Today, health systems continue to move to value-based care wherein hospitals are paid based on the quality and efficiency of care provided—and on outcomes. As a result, health care’s bottom line is increasingly connected to the root causes of poor health, such as economic insecurity. An impact purchasing strategy that prioritizes the participation of diverse, sustainable, employee-owned, and other local and inclusive businesses, alleviates economic insecurity while addressing operational needs.
