HAN member systems & Community Wealth Building

HAN member systems & Community Wealth Building

bpham · Sep 25, 2023 ·

Dr. Geoffrey Gusoff with HAN member UCLA Health co-authored with HAN and Gery W. Ryan a just-released study on healthcare partnerships with community wealth building (CWB) organizations. The article includes mostly HAN member system initiatives with community land trusts, resident-owned communities, and worker cooperatives.

These are key CWB strategies because they allow for local residents to gain ownership and control over their housing and workplaces, helping lead to broadly shared economic prosperity, racial equity, and ecological sustainability.

From the BMC Public Health article:

To assess the current state and key aspects of healthcare-community wealth building partnerships, we conducted a multiple case study analysis using semi-structured interviews with thirty-eight key informants across ten partnerships identified through the Healthcare Anchor Network. . . .

Assessing healthcare partnerships with community wealth building organizations yields key strategies healthcare organizations can use to develop more effective partnerships to address the upstream causes of poor health.
