HAN member CommonSpirit Health’s $5 million place-based investment helped to restart the delayed effort to revitalize San Francisco’s Freedom West. The project will include 515 affordable and 2,305 market rate homes and include a 250-room hotel, a daycare center, and an “innovation technology” center.
From the San Francisco Chronicle article:
Through the [Community Investment Program], CommonSpirit aims to improve the “health of communities we serve, while also recognizing the varied factors that contribute to health disparities and inequities,” said Rosalyn Carpenter, CommonSpirit’s chief diversity officer.
“By providing support to Freedom West 2.0, our hope is for families to spend less time worrying about their ability to pay rent and more time pursuing things that contribute to their ability to achieve their best health.”
