HAN member Trinity Health in Grand Rapids reacquired property that had been used as a COVID-19 isolation unit but laid empty post-pandemic. Trinity Health worked with Dégagé Ministries to turn the 28,000-square-foot facility into housing for homeless individuals and donated the furniture as well.
It is the first housing program in Michigan for women experiencing chronic homelessness. The 25 residents will have access to case management, on-site mental health support, and general medical services.
From the WOOD Radio story:
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Dégagé Ministries in their important work to address complex housing needs as we know well the impact that safe, secure housing has on both an individual’s health and on the community as a whole,” said Dr. Matt Biersack, president of Trinity Health Grand Rapids. “Together, we serve many of the most vulnerable within this community, and any ability to impact social determinants of health, like housing, means the potential to improve life expectancy and quality of life.
