HAN’s president and founder David Zuckerman spoke with AHA Chair and HAN member Dartmouth Health CEO and president Dr. Joanne M. Conroy on how hospitals and health systems are building healthier communities through impact investments that improve upstream determinants of health while also creating economic opportunities in the community.

David explains that “core to the anchor strategy is [identifying] where there are business pain points that intersect with community priorities and what is the overlapping strategy that can address both.”
David highlights different approaches, stages and examples of impact investment and place-based investment. “Those [investment] dollars can be serving double duty in terms of also being put to work in your community. So it still gives you a financial return but also has a social impact,” he notes.
