Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) member Rush University System for Health greeted the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to Chicago with a large banner on its hospital that read, “Who gets the chance to be healthy?” to raise awareness that policies at both the local and federal levels impact population health. Rush also penned a Chicago Sun Times op-ed on this topic, which included the health system’s anchor mission strategies such as place-based investing with community development financial institutions and impact purchasing with Fillmore Linen Service.
From the Crain’s Chicago Business article:
“The fact that we have attention and eyes on Chicago as the place where the DNC is happening, we want to highlight these are often issues broadly of policy,” Dr. John Rich, inaugural director of the Rush BMO Institute for Health Equity, says. “Almost any policy that’s undertaken at the municipal or state or national level has an impact on health and can impact health inequities.”
