Project Manager, Impact Purchasing

About the Position

The Project Manager for Impact Purchasing at the Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) will be in charge of planning, and managing HAN’s impact purchasing workstream, including project, partnerships and other activities. This is a remote, full-time exempt position, Collective Bargaining Unit, Classification 6 reporting directly to the HAN President intended to start September 8, 2025 and includes a six month probationary period.

About the Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN):

The Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) is a national collaboration of more than 75 health systems (nearly 40% of nonprofit healthcare) committed to building inclusive and sustainable local economies through the anchor mission. Founded in 2017, HAN helps health systems align their core operations with community well-being through three strategic pillars: impact workforce, impact purchasing, and place-based investing. This collaborative common-sense strategy is a distinct approach that provides a powerful tool for helping organizations strengthen communities by addressing the root causes of economic and health disparities. By investing in their local economies, expanding opportunity, and building community wealth, healthcare anchors can drive meaningful, long-term improvements in well-being.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Project Manager will have the following general duties and responsibilities, as well as other duties that may arise based on the demands of specific programs and project deliverables. The employee will work closely with the President and relevant staff in your project management area.

Impact Purchasing Initiative Group Duties

  • Lead the design and implementation of learning programs for HAN members, including:
    • Coordinate and facilitate ongoing learning sessions for health system members
    • Provide coaching, resources, and connections to HAN members involved in impact purchasing strategies (with support from the Impact Purchasing Consultant)
    • Manage scheduling, planning, facilitation and follow-up for all impact purchasing programming (with support from Senior Associate, Place-based Investing & Impact Purchasing)
    • Ensure alignment between organizational goals and participant needs across all initiatives
    • Collaborate with research team to develop relevant case studies of member implementation

Impact Purchasing Commitment (IPC) Duties

  • Lead and manage the Impact Purchasing Commitment initiative, including:
    • Design and facilitate cohort-based learning sessions that foster peer-to-peer learning
    • Provide one-on-one coaching and support to IPC signatories to help implement commitment (with support from the Impact Purchasing Consultant)
    • Track and measure progress towards IPC goals and outcomes in collaboration with HAN impact measurement team
    • Manage scheduling, planning, facilitation, and follow-up for all IPC programming with support from Senior Associate, Place-based Investing & Impact Purchasing
    • Lead the design of any future impact purchasing commitments
    • Collaborate with research team on design of evaluation of commitment impact and supporting execution

Data Analysis & Review Duties

  • Participate in annual data collection processes, including:
    • Support the impact measurement team in achieving timely and high quality data submissions
    • Inform HAN’s data collection for impact purchasing metrics (e.g., definition updates and revised guidance)
    • Respond to member’s data questions and requests, especially when it requires a deeper understanding of the member’s impact purchasing activities
    • Leverage HAN data to communicate scale of impact and provide examples of anchor strategy implementation for external partners, media, funders, and the network 

Partnership & Collaboration Duties

  • Build and manage partnerships with external organizations focused on impact purchasing efforts (e.g., supplier diversity, sustainability), including:
    • Collaborate on joint initiatives and cohorts with partner organizations
    • Align goals and ensure successful execution of shared projects
    • Maintain existing partnerships and explore new collaboration opportunities
  • As needed, collaborate with funders and partners to secure grants and deliver high-impact procurement programs
    • Lead the proposal development for procurement-related activities
    • Manage budgets and provide outcome reporting to stakeholders
    • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and deliverables

Team Leadership & External Representation Duties

  • Manage workload of Impact Purchasing Consultant(s)
  • Co-manage junior team members and seasonal interns (as needed).
  • Support team members in stakeholder engagement and impact purchasing project delivery
  • Represent HAN at national conferences and sector councils
    • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for impact purchasing strategies
    • Present on behalf of HAN at industry events and conferences
    • Build HAN’s reputation as a leader in healthcare impact purchasing

Annual Convening Duties

  • Plan and execute the impact purchasing track at HAN’s Annual Convening, including
    • Identify relevant topics and themes for impact purchasing track
    • Coordinate with 10+ speakers annually and manage session logistics

Other Duties

  • Maintain a working knowledge and subject-matter-expertise of trends in impact purchasing through continuous education, such as conferences, webinars, publications, and other resources
  • Additional duties as assigned, including cross-functional initiatives that intersect with impact purchasing strategies (e.g., impact purchasing case studies or toolkits, cohorts) 

Required Qualifications:

  • Program Management: Ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously with strong attention to detail
  • Facilitation: Experience designing and delivering engaging learning experiences for senior professionals
  • Public Speaking: Confidence presenting to large audiences in a variety of settings (virtual v. in-person), and formats (formal presentations, informal facilitation); comfort with representing HAN externally
  • Stakeholder & Relationship Management: Ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders (including, but not limited to C-Suite executives)
  • Procurement/Supply Chain Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare procurement (or, procurement in a different sector), including typical processes, stakeholders, and strategies 
  • Travel Availability: Must be available to travel 6-8 times a year; must be available this year to travel October 6-10 and October 21-23
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Data Analysis: Comfort with procurement data, metrics interpretation, and translating data into actionable insights
  • Knowledge Regarding Social Impact Procurement: Understanding how procurement can be leveraged to create social impact, including understanding the fields of employee ownership, diverse supplier certifications, and local purchasing multipliers

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum requirements include a graduate degree and 4 years relevant post-college work experience or 8+ years of relevant post-college work experience.

Employment and Compensation: 

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The job includes a generous benefits package including 99% of employee health benefits covered by employer, three weeks of paid vacation per year, and an employer contribution of 7% to a 403(b) retirement plan. The starting salary for a Project Manager II is $83,088.64, and the maximum salary for this role is up to $110,000.

HAN offers a flexible work schedule. The work schedule is  Monday – Friday with some flexibility on working hours based on location.

The first six months of employment are considered a probationary period for new employees. New employees will be given a review before the initial probationary period expires.
