Anchor collaboratives, a place-based network of anchor institutions implementing the anchor mission framework, can amplify Impact Workforce strategies. Chicago’s West Side United (WSU) (whose members include HAN members Rush University System for Health, Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Ascension) brings together hospitals and partner organizations around coordinated workforce development in historically under-invested neighborhoods. WSU works directly with local residents, offering training, apprenticeships, and job placement in healthcare and related fields. Since 2018, 1,200 West Side residents have been hired.
