Hawai’i Pacific Health: Place-based Investing Case Study

Hawai’i Pacific Health: Place-based Investing Case Study

Sarah Moseley · Oct 8, 2026 ·

Hawaiʻi Pacific Health (HPH) operates four medical centers on O’ahu and Kaua’i alongside approximately 70 outpatient clinics. Guided by its mission “To create a healthier Hawaiʻi”, HPH utilizes place-based investing as a powerful lever for improving community health and well-being. As a signatory of the Healthcare Anchor Network’s Place-based Investing Leadership Commitment, HPH allocates 1% of its investable assets—up to $9.5 million—to investments that address social drivers of health.

“[ALICE families] are struggling. They have work. They’re employed, but they are still living on a survival subsistence budget… That is what led Hawaiʻi Pacific Health to think about our role in the community, given the patients that we serve, the presence that we have, and our status as an economic generator in our island economy.”

– Michael Robinson, Vice President, Government Relations and Community Affairs, Hawaiʻi Pacific Health
